The scarlet macaw (Ara macao) is a native to the forests of tropical Central and South America. They have a strong, curved beak to crack hard nuts and seeds with, and a tongue dexterous enough to pull it from the shell.

They also eat clay from riverbanks, though no one is sure why. While some learn to speak, most macaws have limited ability to mimic.
